The Italian Field Operational Test, as part of the euroFOT EU FP7 project carried out by
CRF - Centro Ricerche FIAT and Politecnico di Torino, has just started.
The test will involve up to 500 drivers for a period of 9 months.
The Italian FOT is being conducted on the Lane Departure Warning function (Driving Advisor)
available on Lancia Delta. LDW is one of the driving assistance systems available on the
market that will be tested in the framework of the euroFOT project, which aims to evaluate
the acceptance of these advanced support systems in real driving conditions and estimate
the impact on driving safety.
The Italian Field Operational Test is carried out through questionnaires and is based on subjective
responses that are self-reported by drivers about the practical and social acceptability of LDW
system. Drivers are asked to fill in five rounds of questionnaires which are either paper-based
and posted to them or available on-line. Drivers' system use is also recorded through a weekly
diary and the chance to provide detailed information about specific events involving the LDW
system.
The Italian Field Operational Test officially started last February when several owners of Lancia
Deltas equipped with the LDW system were contacted by mail inviting them to participate in the
project. The first of the five questionnaires has already been administered to project participants.
CRF and Politecnico di Torino are now involved in recruiting new participants, managing new
questionnaires administration and giving support to any question from drivers.
